The Kappa Career Readiness Technical Scholarship supports aspiring students pursuing technical and vocational education, helping them gain the skills, training, and opportunities needed to succeed in today’s workforce.

Dear Educational Partner / Parent / Friend:

The Sarasota (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. sponsors the annual Steve Lewis Achievement Awards. These awards are presented to recipients of our Career Readiness Technical Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students pursuing careers in various fields, including Electrical and Instrumentation Technology, AC/Plumbing, Law, public safety and security, computer systems, and information technology, among others. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, community service, and economic need. Please nominate students from your school, neighborhood, church, or family for consideration.

All applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. A male student from Manatee or Sarasota County.
2. A 2025/2026 graduating high school senior.
3. Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0.
4. Provide two letters of recommendation from a school representative.
5. Provide an official sealed transcript.
6. Provide a letter of acceptance from a university/college (not required with initial application if not
received).

I have attached a copy of the Career Readiness Techical Scholarship Application Form, which is an online application that must be completed by both the applicant and their parent/guardian. If a student requests a paper application, a completed packet must be returned via mail to the Sarasota (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., P.O. Box 573, Tallevast, FL 34270, by Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Mandatory in-person interviews will be conducted for selected nominees on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Steve Lewis Center at 1720 26th Ave. East, Bradenton, FL. Nominees will be notified in advance of the exact time of their scheduled interview. Finalists will be notified in writing of their status by Friday, March 13, 2026. Applications must be legible; if the application is not legible, it may affect the decision regarding your application. You may use additional space for responses if required. Electronic form completion (MS Word) encouraged.

Please attach an official copy of your High School Transcript (which includes the cumulative GPA and class ranking), acceptance letter from a college or university (if available), and a letter of recommendation. On a separate sheet explain any circumstance(s) affecting your financial situation that will assist the Committee in assessing your financial need. The signatures below acknowledge that the information submitted is true and correct to the best of our knowledge. We will inform the committee of any changes that may occur regarding this information.

All information contained on this application will remain and be used exclusively by the Sarasota (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Scholarship Committee and Board of Directors for the sole purpose of determining scholarship winners. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND POSTMARKED BY Saturday, January 31, 2026.
